The secret to the best garlic bread is to keep it simple + to use tons of fresh garlic! This is such a quick and simple recipe, and its one that my whole family can always agree on as a side for dinner. We just can’t resist the golden crisp edges and the soft buttery center. Serve this as an accompaniment to a variety of my recipes; I especially love it with Shrimp Oreganata, Melt-in-your-Mouth Meatballs, or my Minestrone Soup.
Ingredients
- 1 loaf of Italian or French bread
- 5 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 4 large cloves garlic, minced on microplane
- ½ tsp oregano
- Scant ½ tsp salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Slice the loaf in half lengthwise and open it so the cut sides are facing up.
- In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter, olive oil, garlic, oregano and salt.
- Spread the butter mixture onto both halves of the bread. Place the top half of the bread onto the bottom half.
- Make 1-inch thick slices into the bread, only cutting through ¾ of the way so that the bread stays together. Wrap tightly in foil.
- Place the garlic bread in the oven and bake for about 10 minutes, or until the crust is slightly crispy and the center is still soft.
- Remove from the oven and serve hot.
