What Is a Korean BBQ Beef Bowl?
A Korean BBQ Beef Bowl is a deconstructed rice bowl featuring thinly sliced beef marinated in a sweet-savory Korean BBQ sauce made with soy sauce, garlic, sesame oil, ginger, and honey. It’s served over rice with crisp and fresh cucumber slices and crunchy sesame seeds.
Tips for the Best Korean BBQ Beef
💡 I get my beef at Trader Joes because they carry "Thin Shaved Beef Steak", but you can buy ribeye and slice the beef very thin (freeze for 15 minutes to make it easier).
🥘 Don’t overcrowd the pan—cook in batches to get a good sear.
🌶️ Use gochujang or sriracha mayo for extra Korean-style heat.
🍳 Add a fried egg on top for a Korean bibimbap-style twist!
Variations:
Low Carb: Use cauliflower rice or serve in lettuce cups
Vegetarian: Swap beef with tofu or mushrooms
Gluten-Free: Use tamari or coconut aminos instead of soy sauce
Add crunch: Top with pickled red onions or kimchi
Storage + Meal Prep
To store: Keep cooked beef and rice in airtight containers for up to 4 days.
To reheat: Warm in a skillet or microwave until hot.
To freeze: Freeze cooked beef separately from rice for up to 2 months.
Frequently Asked Questions
What cut of beef is best for Korean BBQ Bowls? I like ribeye, but flank or sirloin also work —just slice thin against the grain. Trader Joe's carries the tinly sliced beef strak which makes this recipe extra easy!
Can I grill the beef instead of cooking it on the stove? Absolutely! Grill over high heat for 1–2 minutes per side for a smoky char.
Is this recipe spicy? The base marinade is sweet and savory. Add gochujang or chili flakes if you want heat.
